Position Title: Digital Literacy Coach

Reporting to: ESL Manager

Location: 245 Fairview Mall Drive, North York, ON M2J 4T1

Status: This is a part time temporary contract position ending August 30, 2025.

Hours of Work: Will be determined by the Manager,  10-15 hours per week

Hourly rate: $26.53

Position Summary

The Digital Literacy Coach assists instructors in using research-based instructional, learning strategies and content specific, differentiated instruction in assisting instructors in planning, delivering, and assessing lessons and individual student success.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assess client needs and adapt existing digital literacy training resources designed for language learners to meet the needs and for a remote/hybrid delivery context

  • Meet with participants individually or in small groups to provide basic introduction on how to navigate access to online tools and resources, and then deliver group sessions online

  • Focus on the ability to find, assess and use information with the aid of digital tools such as web browsers, attaching, saving & retrieving documents, online discussion boards, emailing on laptops, tablets & phones, etc

  • Support the implementation and use of remote service tools to facilitate improved connection/communication with digital literacy barriers

  • Support clients and facilitators to set up an account

  • Train clients on Zoom and Google Meet usage on on how to join meetings, how to participate in meetings, how to host meetings

  • Develop and deliver digital literacy workshops to clients on topics such as Microsoft, Google Drive, SharePoint, browsing the internet, cybersecurity, Google maps, etc.

Team Contributions and Expectations

  • Committed to the contribution toward program targets and outcomes as defined by the funders, upholding organization’s mission/vision

  • Participate in training of new staff, practicum students and volunteers as required

  • Attend workshops and training as recommended by NEW

  • Take an active role in the upkeep of staff areas and offices

  • Participate on committees as needed

Minimum Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field or combination of education and relevant work experience

  • Minimum of two years’ experience in counseling, teaching, coaching/ tutoring adults with their digital literacy skills

  • Significant experience with various instructional technology tools such as Windows and Mac OS, Microsoft 365, One Drive, Google classroom, Interactive White Boards, Classroom Projection Systems, Classroom Amplification Systems, Document Cameras, Web 2.0 Tools

  • Advanced level of excel and powerpoint

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, organize and complete tasks with minimal supervision and ability to meet tight deadlines

  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively and courteously with clients, staff and the public who may come from differing cultural and linguistic backgrounds

  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively and courteously with clients, staff and the public who may come from differing cultural and linguistic backgrounds

  • Proven technical knowledge & skills

  • Previous experience working with immigrants & refugees would be considered an asset

  • Flexibility, creativity and effectiveness in working collaboratively in a multicultural team

  • Proficiency in English. Another language would be considered a definite asset
