Sister2Sister: Community Leadership Program

 

What you need to know

 

The Sister2Sister: Community Leadership Program will build the capacity of newcomer and immigrant women with a curriculum tailored to their needs and aspirations through education (“information is power”), critical thinking, practice telling and sharing their stories, experiential learning, and mentoring. The aim is to leverage their voice and personal power as formal and informal leaders in their communities. This is a six-month free leadership development program where participants will learn a diverse skill set and will have the opportunity to build their social and human capital.

Eligibility Criteria  

MUST BE A RACIALIZED NEWCOMER AND/OR REFUGEE WOMAN
Please note that this program is only open to racialized newcomer women and refugee women who meet one of the following criteria:

  • Identify as a racialized newcomer and/or refugee woman to Canada (individuals who immigrated to Canada within the last 5 years, including permanent residents, protected persons, and those in Canada under an emergency travel measure enacted by the federal government).

  • Resident in Toronto area 

AND who:

  • Are between 18- 35 

  • Have an undergraduate degree

  • Have a prior leadership experience inside or outside Canada

  • Are willing and able to commit 3 hours per week to the program

  • Are able and willing to attend both in-person and virtual sessions.

The program consists of 24 sessions, which will be delivered:

  1. From October 3rd, 2024 to March, 2025 (We will not have any session on November 23 for Thanksgiving, and we will have a break for the New Year, from December 14 to January 4).

  2. Every Thursday

  3. Sessions will be delivered online: 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm via Zoom.

NEW’s Sister2Sister Community Leadership Program is a six-month FREE leadership training program that will help you find your voice and build your network. You’ll spend time with other remarkable multicultural/multi-ethnic immigrant and refugee women who want to make a difference in their lives and their communities. The program activities include leadership training, workshops, community development and violence prevention programming. Plus, you build a new network of strong women and you’ll grow together in a supportive and safe environment.
