Re-Imaging the Sky: an Anthology by Newcomer Women’s Collective
October 21, 2013 at 5:00 pm
Toronto, On, Oct.16 - Newcomer Women’s Collective in collaboration with Newcomer Women’s Services Toronto, will be launching the anthology Re-Imaging the Sky on October 21st 2013 at Massey College, 4 Devonshire Place, Toronto.
The book is a collection of 74 stories, poems and erotica from Bangladesh, Colombia, Germany, Iran, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, and Trinidad, written over 9 months at Newcomer Women’s Services Toronto.
Maya Roy, Executive Director noted, "their pieces may surprise you, challenge you, and even shock you. Their prose can be matter-of-fact, passionate, full of rage, and provocatively sensual. They challenge the story of the “exotic immigrant women” and speak to universal themes of love, truth, power and death.”
Without concern about being judged, they found moments of creation to be written from their hearts, bellies and souls during settlement and dealing with the challenges of integrating into their new city.
The book was edited by Dr. Althea Prince and published by TSAR Press with the support of the Ontario Arts Council.
This book launch will be an opportunity to meet the authors, and celebrate the spirit of newcomer womens’ creativity.
